Introduction
On April 1, 2008, after over a year of designing and programming, the old My StampWants area has been replaced. The new My StampWants area uses features based on the input and requests of the 20,000+ members of StampWants.com. The My StampWants area easily and efficiently lets StampWants members manage all aspects of their accounts, including buying and selling. Compared to other auction sites, where third party software is needed to fully manage and keep records of all activity, the My StampWants area is a one-stop solution, with no need for additional software.
Where other auction websites may limit the amount of information you can review to the last 90 days, at StampWants.com, you can go as far back as you like. As a buyer, if you want to find out from which seller you purchased a specific stamp, and at what time and cost, you can do so with ease. Just go to the Items I've Won section of the My StampWants area and use the top filter and search section to easily find any item from any date. As a seller, you can even search for a particular buyer and see their entire purchase history, including summary information, such as total amount of sales.
There are hundreds of different features available, including exporting any information to standard spreadsheet files, bulk feedback (with the New Feedback Factory), and updating the status in bulk of items paid, shipped and received. To use and understand the features of the My StampWants area, please read this help page, especially the key features and usage section below.
Key Features and Usage
There are a few key features applicable to all of the My StampWants Buying and Selling areas. These features are essential to efficiently understand and use the My StampWants area.
Search and Filter
At the top of each Buying and Selling page there is a search and filter area. The best way to understand how to use this feature is through an example. Here we will highlight the Items I've Won section's search and filter area:
In the above example we've labeled the different areas 1-8. Each of the buying and selling sections have a similar search and filter area, with different options best suited for each section. However, the general layout and basic features are the same. Additionally, there is no "submit" button. The search parameters are automatically updated after you stop typing for more than 1.5 seconds.
1: Title
This displays the title of the page you are viewing. In this example it reads "Items I've Won", because we are viewing the "Items I've Won" section of the Buying area.
2: Item and Page Counter
This displays the total amount of items in the current search filter (as specified in the search and filter area). It also displays which part of the search results you are currently viewing. For example, if there were 200 results, you would see [1 - 100] of 200 Items, because only the first 100 items would be displayed. To view the additional items, you need to go to the next page.
3: Item Search
Here you can search by stamp number, keywords, category and more. If you are accessing a Selling section, you can also search by full or partial Private IDs. For example. if you search for 08March_ , this will return both 08March_1 and 08March_2 (if you had items with those Private IDs).
4: Type Filter
Here you can filter your results by auction type. In the example above, Auctions, Fixed Price, Store Items and Public Auction items are being displayed. Clicking on any of the four listing types will prevent that listing type from being displayed. For example if you only wanted to view Store Items, click on the check mark next to Auction, Fixed and Public. A red "X" will appear and those items will no longer be included in your search results. Different filters may be available depending on which My StampWants section you are in. In this example buyers can also filter to view unpaid items only (allowing a buyer to easily see what needs to be paid) and items which have not yet been received (allowing a buyer to easily see which items they did not yet receive).
5: Sort By
This allows you to determine how your items are sorted. The options vary slightly in different sections. You can select what field you want to sort by, and then click on the up/down circled arrow to determine if you want the sort to be ascending or descending. Optionally, you can set a second sort by field as well.
6: Buyer/Seller Username Filter
This allows you to filter by the buyer/seller of an item. In this example you can filter by the seller of the item by entering either the seller's full or partial username. Ross Berger
7: Date Filter
Here you can filter by date range. First you can select which date to filter if more than one is available (such as date sold or data paid), and then specify the range you wish to display. You can enter dates by clicking on the date fields, which results in a small pop up calendar being displayed. You can also enter dates in manually, in the format: MM/DD/YYYY.
8: Buyer/Seller Name/Email Filter
In the Items I've Won section, and the Items I've Sold section you can filter by name and email address of the buyer/seller. You can only do this in these two sections because name and email address are only provided after you complete a transaction with another member.
Expanding Rows
To work fast and efficiently in the My StampWants area, you must make use of Expanding Rows. Expanding rows is easy to do, and serves two main functions, selection, and additional options.
First, to select any row, simply click on the title of the row, or click on the plus sign to the left of the title. To collapse a row, click on the title of any expanded row, or click on the small minus sign to the left of the title.
Selection
Expanding a row serves to mark it as "selected". At the bottom of the page you can apply bulk actions to either "Expanded Rows Only" (default), "All Items on this Page" or "All Items in this Filter". When using the default, "Expanded Rows Only", only the rows which you have expanded will be affected. For more information on bulk actions, see the "Bulk Auction Icons" section.
Additional Options
Expanding a row usually shows the image of the item in question, and additional information and options. You can usually see additional information such as shipping costs, specific dates, the manner in which items were paid for, shipped, received, etc.. Note that StampWants.com saves images for only 30 days after a listing ends.
Expanding a row reveals additional options you can select for an item being reviewed. For example, in the Items I'm Selling section when you expand a row you can choose to "Edit", "End Early", or "List Similar" for auction and fixed price items, and for store items you also can select "Send to Auction", "Send to Fixed Price" or "Mark on Sale".
Most of the options which you can select for an item, are available at the bottom of the listing results table in the "Bulk Action Icons" area where you can perform the action on multiple items.
Action Icons
The most important aspect of the Items I've Won and Items I've Sold sections are the Action Icons. These are found to the right of any item row. These icons are called Action Icons, because you can click on them to set the values they represent.
Below is an example from the "Items I've Sold" section:
The dollar sign represents an item's paid status. A seller can click on the dollar sign to set/change the paid status, as well as view the manner in which the payment was made. A seller also can expand the row to see how and when the item was paid. A buyer can set the paid status in the Items I've Won section. If the item has not yet been marked as paid, the icon will be gray in color. If the item has been marked as paid the icon will be in color, and if the item has been marked as canceled or refunded, the icon will be in black.
The shipping box represents the Shipped status. As a seller, you can click on the shipping box to set/change the Shipped status (additionally, you can also expand the row to see the shipped status and when the item was shipped). As a buyer, you can set your own Received status in the Items I've Won section. If the item has not yet been marked as shipped, the icon will be in gray. If the item has been marked as shipped the icon will be in color, and if the item has been marked as canceled or returned, the icon will be in black.
The paper invoice icon represents the Custom Invoice option. As a seller, if you have not been paid for an item and want to send your own custom invoice, click on the paper invoice icon. If you have not yet sent a custom invoice, the icon will be gray. If you have sent a custom invoice the icon will be in color. If needed, you can additonal custom invoices.
The star represents the Leave Feedback option. If the star is gray you have not yet left feedback and can click on the star to leave feedback. If the star is in color, you have already left feedback.
The circular check mark represents the Feedback Received status. You cannot click on this icon, but if it is gray you have not yet received feedback for this item. If it is in color, feedback has been left for you.
Most of the actions that you can take on a particular item can also be peformed in bulk at the bottom of the listing results table in the "Bulk Action Icons" area.
Bulk Action Icons
One of the most powerful features, which will help speed up almost anything you do in the My StampWants area, is the Bulk Action Icons feature. This is found at the bottom of all listing results, where you'll see the bulk action icons, followed by an Apply to drop down box.
The first option you should select is the Apply to drop down box. By default this is set to "Expanded Item", which means only the items which you have expanded above will be affected. You can optionally set this to "All Items on Page", or "All Items in Filter". Once you select the items on which you want to take action, select the appropriate Bulk Action, and the update will occur. This is a very powerful tool, especially when combined with the search and filter feature.
Here is a brief list of some of the things you can achieve with the Bulk Action Icons:
- Items I'm Buying - Mark All Items Paid for a Seller (Filter by the seller's username, then select "All Items In Filter" and click on the Set Paid Status Bulk Action Icon)
- Items I'm Buying - Mark All Items Received from a Seller (Filter by the seller's username, then select "All Items In Filter" and click on the Set Received Status Bulk Action Icon)
- Items I'm Buying - Leave Feedback for All Items from a Seller (Filter by the seller's username, then select "All Items In Filter" and click on the Leave Feedback Bulk Action Icon)
- The above 3 examples also apply for sellers in the Items I've Sold section
- Items I've Sold - Leave Feedback for All Items which were paid for, and feedback has not yet been left for (In the top filter, change Date Type to "Paid Date", then select a date range [note: only items which have been paid for will have a paid date], then select "All Items In Filter" and click on the Leave Feedback Bulk Action Icon)
