Description

Very attractive Cacheted cover (both sides) honoring the the Marine Corps General who led the amphibious assault during the invasion of the heavily defended island of Iwo Jima 19 February 1945, in which 6,891 U.S. Marines and Navy Corpmen were killed in action, and 18,070 were wounded during the 35 days and nights of ferocious fighting, much of it "hand-to-hand" combat. Front cachet consist of a photo of the general, and theAssociated Press' photo of the famous flag raising, plus pertinent text. It's franked with the 'PURPLE HEART" and and 3 CENT 'IWO JIMA' Stampscanceled, "SEALE, AL DEC 10 2007", the city of "Howling Mad's" birth. Back cachet is a color aerial photo of Mt. Suribachi on the island of Iwo Jima. Cover is unsealed, unaddressed and poly-sleeve enclosed. An interesting, inexpensive piece of historical WW-II military memorabilia. "TOP SARGE" Cachet.
