U.S. R84. ENGRAVED. SUP/GEM. IMPERF. GREAT CANCEL. I present for your consideration an exceptional SUPERIOR engraved example of this rare and sought-after Revenue issue. The color is very sharp, the centering is virtually perfect, there is a clear May 12,1868 cancel, there are no stains or rust, there is a VVLHM and, w/ the exception of the stamped letters "SE," the back is very clean. This gorgeous 146 year olde stamp is in excellent condition and truly is about as good as it gets. Since listing this item I have heard from 3 Revenue collectors. All agree that this is a beautiful example and that the date cancel is a bonus. They all agree that this is a supeior gem quality item. However, they all agree that w/o a Cert, it will be difficult realizing its true value. I sent it to Paul Smith for certification. It came back un-certified. The reason: "There are not enough margins on the right and bottom to be sure. It appears genuine. If a guess had to be made it would be positive." Therefor, based on this information (and despite the fact that I believe it to be a genuine Imperf), I am dropping the investment to under 50% of SCV for a VF condition stamp. In addition to a full refund, I will also refund half the cost of certification if it verifies not genuine. The 2008 SCV for this 145 year olde stamp is $7000.00.
