And that is where the Adventures of the Traveling Mousepad saga got started and where this peripatetic piece of pliable polyethelene has entertained StampWants members with stories of his map-hopping and intercontinental photo-ops!

Since starting his journey in downtown Cleveland last summer, TM - as he is affectionately known - has traveled more than 45,000 miles, visiting over 20 Forum members and leaving a scrapbook of his wanderings at stampwants.com/wiki/index.php/TM%27s_Gallery

Participating in the August 2007 American Heart Association HeartWalk gave StampWants regular Doug Noernberg the idea to send his mousepad on a round robin among fellow Forum contributors and then auction him off this summer to benefit the AHA. TM will be covered with dozens of autographs by then and adorned with added philatelic accoutrements as he gets decorated on each stop of his way.

The eighth stop on TM’s journey was at the California home of cachetmaker Dave Bennett back in January. It just so happened that on TM’s last day in the Golden State, a new U.S. stamp was issued several hundred miles to the north.

This resulting First Day Cover and its explanatory stuffer celebrate TM’s California visit in the Year of the Rat and features a fold-out Chinese Lantern as part of the full-color cachet.

All proceeds from the sales of this special FDC - created in a much smaller edition than other Bennett Cachetoons - will be donated to the American Heart Association through Doug Noernberg’s fundraising HeartWalk team. In this first auction of TM/Year of the Rat FDCs, there are 10 covers available. You don’t need to be the highest bidder - - just the tenth highest bidder!
