Description

ATTENTION UNITED STATES PATRIOTIC, PRESIDENTIAL AND SPECIAL EVENT MAXIMUM CARD COLLECTORS; AND COLLECTORS OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN MEMORABILIA. When the Illinois Republican Convention nominated Abraham Lincoln to run against Democrat Stephen A. Douglas for the United States Senate in 1858, Lincoln challenged the incumbent to a series of debates around the state. One was held at Freeport on August 27, 1858. This clever reproduction of an original debate advertisement poster was created to commemorate that historic event in American presidential politics. It is franked with a F-VF copy of Scott No. 1115 from the 1958-59 Lincoln Sesquicentennial issue, and was cancelled at Freeport on August 27, 1958, the First Day of Issue. This scarce Maximum Card measures 10"x7" and is ideal for framing. It is in pristine condition.
