Description

Happier Times -- the Cleveland Indians
Move into Their New Home

They currently have the worst record in the America League, and no prospects for the All-Star Game, but back in 1994 it was a different story for the Cleveland Indians -- a new roster, a new attitude, new uniforms, and most of all a new home - a 42,000 seat jewel in downtown Cleveland named Jacobs Field after the owner of the young and revitalized team.

Things are quite a bit different now -- it's not even called Jacobs Field any longer -- but here's a momento of a more cheerful and promising era -- a handcolored cover commemorating the Home Opener at Jacobs Field on 4-4-94.

Cartoonist and cachetmaker Dave Bennett depicted Chief Wahoo all decked out for the gala opening in this handcolored cachet.  The cover bears a single of the 29¢ Baseball in the Olympics stamp (Scott 2619) cancelled with the special pictorial cancel from Cleveland, Ohio.

Aaah, memories!
