This listing is for Hong Kong Scott #756 (Yang #C82M), which was issued in October of 1996 as part of the publicity leading up to the Hong Kong '97, a major international stamp show held in Hong Kong a few months before the reversion of the then-British colony to Chinese rule on the 1^st of July, 1997. Since 1990, Hong Kong had issued special souvenir sheets like this one (each containing a single $10 definitive stamp) to commemorate events, particularly international stamp shows like this one. The difference is that the colour scheme of the definitive is changed slightly for the souvenir sheet to differentiate it from the standard definitive of the same value. The $10 stamp from the "Machin Head" Queen Elizabeth definitive series which was the current series in 1996 has a brown back ground, with the Chinese calligraphic characters "Hong Kong" (at left under the value) in a different shade of brown.

As can be seen in this scan, the background colour of the stamp is a pinkish-red, while the Chinese characters are a bright yellow-green. This souvenir sheet is the only source of $10 stamps with this combination of colours. Other combinations from other souvenir sheets exist.

Additionally, this sheet was the third sheet in a set of three issued in 1996 with $10 stamps differing from the standard $10 stamp in the run up to Hong Kong '97. The first showed a view of Hong Kong's Central District in the mid-19^th century in the selvage part of the souvenir sheet, the second showed the same view in the early 20^th century. This final souvenir sheet showed Central District's skyline in 1996.
